Background of New Revelation Children’s Hope

Founding and Early Days

New Revelation Children’s Hope was founded in November 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—a time marked by widespread uncertainty, social isolation, and economic hardship. Official registration followed in April 2021, as the world continued to reel from the impact of the pandemic. The organization was born out of the growing hopelessness and vulnerability experienced by many, particularly in communities facing high rates of unemployment due to mass retrenchments.

Identifying Community Needs

During this tumultuous period, the community witnessed rising challenges among youth: many teenagers, grappling with economic desperation, engaged in risky behaviors such as transactional sex, while others became entangled in gangsterism. Sensing an urgent need for intervention, Mrs. Nonceba Molebatsi took the initiative to address these issues directly. She began by gathering the needs of local teenagers and established teenagers’ clubs. These clubs provided vital life skills and literacy programs, offering young people a safe space and a sense of purpose.

Growth and Expansion of Services

The organization started modestly, with just 14 teenagers aged 13 to 18. However, Mrs. Molebatsi soon noticed that younger children also required nurturing and early intervention. As a result, the organization’s constitution was amended to include children as young as six, expanding the age range served to 6–18 years old.

New Revelation Children’s Hope has always maintained a functional board of directors, which continues to guide its operations. Over time, the organization has grown significantly: it now serves approximately 300 families, offering a variety of critical services. These include:

  • Psychosocial support
  • Social behavior changes programs
  • Nutrition support
  • Literacy and academic support

Impact and Community Outreach

A cornerstone of New Revelation’s work is its commitment to HIV prevention, education, and support. The organization has made a significant impact on the lives of people living with HIV and other key populations by providing education on medication adherence and human rights. Outreach extends into local schools, including:

  • Imfundo Secondary School
  • Thuto Kitso Comprehensive School
  • Fochville Secondary
  • Kokosi Primary School
  • Reakgona Primary School
  • Retlile Primary School
  • Greenspark Primary School (recently added)

Strategic Partnerships and Programmes

Since 2022, New Revelation Children’s Hope has enjoyed collaboration with the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation on enriching programs such as spelling bees, book clubs, and public speaking competitions. The organization has also participated in the FUNDA MZANZI competition and has been part of an 18-month capacity-building program with Networking HIV and AIDS Community of Southern Africa (NACOSA), running from October 1, 2023, to March 31, 2025.

Vision and Mission Statement:

Empowering Lives, Creating Hope, and Fostering Resilience

Introduction

Every child deserves the right to safety, love, health, and opportunities to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. In communities affected by poverty, disease, and social upheaval, orphans and vulnerable children are often the most at risk of being left behind. It is in response to these urgent needs that our organization has articulated a clear vision and mission, guiding our efforts to make a lasting difference in the lives of the most marginalized.

Our Vision

We envisage advocacy and care plans for orphans and vulnerable children.

A vision is more than just a statement; it is the beacon that guides our actions, the hope that motivates our team, and the promise we make to the children and families we serve. Our vision is founded on the belief that every orphan and vulnerable child deserves a future where their rights are protected, their voices are heard, and their well-being is prioritized. We strive to be champions for those who cannot always speak for themselves, advocating for systemic changes that ensure children are not just recipients of charity, but active participants in shaping their destinies.

Through our advocacy, we aim to challenge societal norms, influence policy, and mobilize resources so that all children—especially those orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV, TB, poverty, or conflict—receive the care and protection they deserve. Our care plan is holistic and child-centered, addressing not only the immediate needs for shelter, nutrition, and safety but also the psychosocial, educational, and emotional support that is crucial for healthy development.

Our Mission

To enhance change in the lives of children through psychosocial support services, provide care and support, create a safe environment for HIV/TB infected individuals and provide education through literacy programme.

Our mission defines the concrete steps we take to realize our vision. We are committed to building a brighter future for orphans and vulnerable children by:

  • Enhancing Change Through Psychosocial Support Services: Children facing the loss of family, trauma, or chronic illness require more than just physical survival—they need healing, resilience, and hope. Our psychosocial programs offer counseling, safe spaces for self-expression, recreational activities, and peer support, all designed to help children process their experiences and build the emotional strength needed to overcome adversity.
  • Providing Care and Support: We ensure that children’s basic needs—food, shelter, health care, and clothing—are met. Our teams work closely with caregivers, foster families, and community members to create nurturing environments where children can feel safe, valued, and loved. We also facilitate access to medical care and social services, ensuring no child is left behind.
  • Creating Safe Environments for HIV/TB Infected Individuals: Children and families affected by HIV or TB often face stigma, discrimination, and isolation. We are dedicated to breaking down these barriers by fostering environments where every individual is treated with dignity and respect. Our programs focus on education, stigmatization, and direct support—ensuring affected children have access to treatment, counseling, and community integration.
  • Providing Education: Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and disadvantages. We work to ensure that all children in our care are enrolled in school, supported to achieve academic success, and encouraged to dream boldly about their futures. In addition to formal schooling, we offer life skills training, vocational education, and mentorship opportunities to empower children to become agents of positive change in their communities.

The Need for Advocacy and Holistic Support

Orphans and vulnerable children are confronted with a unique set of challenges. Many have lost their parents to HIV, TB, or other causes and are left in the care of extended family members or community organizations. These children are often at increased risk of malnutrition, exploitation, abuse, and psychological trauma. Societal stigma and limited resources further compound their vulnerability.

Through our advocacy efforts, we aim to raise awareness about the plight of these children, influence policy decisions, and mobilize community action. We collaborate with governments, NGOs, faith-based groups, and grassroots organizations to champion the rights of children and ensure that their needs are prioritized at every level of decision-making.

Psychosocial Support: Healing the Invisible Wounds

Beyond physical care, the invisible wounds of grief, loss, and uncertainty can have lifelong impacts on children’s well-being. Our psychosocial programs are designed to address these needs with sensitivity and professionalism. Trained counselors and social workers offer individual and group counseling, art and play therapy, and resilience-building workshops. By acknowledging and addressing the emotional realities faced by orphans and vulnerable children, we give them the tools to heal, adapt, and flourish.

Providing Care and a Safe Haven

Meeting basic needs is the foundation of our work. Whether children are in institutional care, foster homes, or supported in their communities, our teams ensure that safety, nutrition, and health care are always accessible. We conduct regular assessments to identify gaps and intervene promptly to address emergencies. Partnerships with health care providers, schools, and local leaders help us build a network of support that can respond to diverse and changing needs.

Combating Stigma and Supporting HIV/TB Affected

Children living with or affected by HIV and TB not only battle illness but also confront stigma and exclusion. Our programs actively work to dismantle misconceptions and prejudices, creating welcoming spaces where all children and families can access care without fear of judgment. We provide education on prevention, treatment adherence support, and advocacy for improved health care policies.

Education as a Pathway to Empowerment

Education is central to every child’s development and future opportunities. We are relentless in our efforts to keep children in school, provide scholarships, and supply learning materials. Our education initiatives also include after-school programs, tutoring, and career guidance. For those who cannot access formal education, we offer alternative learning and skills training to prepare them for independent adulthood.

Community Engagement and Partnerships

Lasting change cannot be achieved in isolation. Our mission is realized through the strong partnerships we forge with community members, local and national authorities, and global advocates. We facilitate community dialogues, capacity-building workshops, and training sessions to equip caregivers with knowledge and strategies to support children effectively. Empowering communities to take responsibility ensures sustainability and long-term impact.

Measuring Impact and Ensuring Accountability

To remain true to our vision and mission, we continuously monitor and evaluate our programs. Feedback from children, caregivers, and partners informs our strategies and helps us refine our approaches. Transparent reporting and accountability are embedded in our organizational culture, ensuring that resources are used effectively and with integrity.

Looking Ahead: Sustaining Hope and Building Futures

Our vision and mission are not static—they evolve with the changing needs of the children we serve and the communities in which we operate. By staying committed to advocacy, holistic care, and empowerment through education, we strive to create a world where no child is left behind, where every orphan and vulnerable child has a place to call home, and where hope for a brighter future is always within reach.
